Eminent jurist Justice V R Krishna Iyer was chosen for this year’s ‘Vagbhadananda’ award, instituted in memory of renowned social reformer of Kerala.

Justice Iyer was chosen for the award for his relentless efforts in uplifting the condition of the marginal sections of the society, ‘Vagbhadananda’ Trust Secretary I V Das said on Thursday while announcing the award here.

Justice Iyer, despite holding eminent position as Supreme Court Justice, voiced against human rights violations as a “soldier and prophet” of the poor, he said.

The award consisted of citation and cash prize would be given away to Justice Iyer by noted literateur and social critic Sukumar Azhikode at a function in Ernakulam next month, he said.

Vagbhadananada Guru played a pivotal role in initiating series of progressive social reforms propagated by social and spiritual leader Sree Narayana Guru in Kerala.
