The Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samiti (JSS) has expressed discontent at the treatment meted out to it by the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). Though the party had submitted a written demand to the LDF to make it a partner of the front, a favourable answer is yet to be received from the latter, the party said in its report tabled by general secretary K.R. Gouri at the State convention here.
The JSS had extended cooperation to the LDF at the elections to Parliament and Assembly. The party had sought, as part of the Left coalition arrangement, to contest in Assembly constituencies where it had been strong, but the request was declined. Though the party had decided to field candidates in its strongholds, the decision was abandoned after holding talks with the LDF leadership.
The LDF, which had fought elections with the support of the JSS, had gained power. CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had stated openly that the JSS would be considered on a par with the constituent parties of the LDF, but the party had not got justice, the report said.
The party had demanded a few positions of power such as directors of Corporations and boards, but received only one, that of the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation.
The report underlined the need for improved performance on the part of party workers. A 75-member State committee and a 12-member State centre, the top body of the party, were formed during the State meeting held two years ago. The functioning of the party centre was not up to the mark, the report said.
Former president of the party P.S. Pradeep and a few other leaders such as N.N. Sadanandan and B. Gopan had been expelled for anti-party activities. The membership campaign was not satisfactory. The report underlined the need to strengthen the party in order to be able to get a deserving role in multi-party political alliances.
The report expressed concern at the incidents of attack on women in the State and referred to the recent episode involving an actor. The party should fight for social justice, economic independence, and equality of sexes, the report said.
