Janamaithri police scheme to be launched

Tribal Janamaithri Sureksha scheme will be launched in seven police stations in the district. The scheme will be started in the tribal inhabited areas of Marayur, Munnar, Kumily, Adimaly, Kulamavu, Kaliyar and Kanjar police stations.

A committee with the tribal representatives and the police will review its functioning. A senior police official at Painavu said that it will co-ordinate activities against anti-social elements and crimes in the areas and funds have already been made available for launching the scheme.

The beat-officers and the assistant beat officers have been appointed, he said.

Welfare measures like medical camps and awareness programmes to counter violence will also be started in these areas.

At present, the Janamaithri police is functioning in the police stations of Kattappana, Nedumkandam, Peerumade, Adimaly and Thodupuzha.
