Jamaat-e-Islami hails Morsy’s win

June 26, 2012 10:48 am | Updated 10:48 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, on Monday, hailed the victory of Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsy in Egypt as an election verdict that will infuse vigour and pep into all agitations for democracy across the globe.

T. Arif Ali, Amir of Kerala chapter of the Jamaat-e-Islami, in a statement said it was also “a fitting reply to the propaganda that Arab Muslim countries are breeding grounds of religious fanaticism and terrorism and not mature enough for democracy.”

“Mr. Morsy’s victory is a serious setback to efforts to demonise religious movements rich with social and political content as terrorist outfits,” he said.

He warned against covert moves to scuttle the victory of democracy in Egypt and enable the Army to wrest power once again.
