A court here on Friday sentenced a Jharkhand native to seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for murdering his brother-in-law in the hill hamlet of Panathadi in 2015.

The district sessions court here also slapped a fine of ₹10,000 on Siva Kandeth, 38, from Bastoli village in Gumla district of Jharkhand for murdering his wife’s brother Balakrishnan, 48, by strangulating him using a plastic rope at Puliyarkochi in Panathady village on February 4, 2015. Siva Kandeth, who reached here from his home State as a worker, later married Balakrishnan’s sister. The murder was said to be a fallout of an altercation between the two over sharing of drinking water.
