IUML to finalise candidates on March 10

March 09, 2014 02:16 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:31 pm IST - MALAPPURAM:

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will finalise its candidates for the Lok Sabha elections at its State secretariat meeting to be held on Monday.

Discussions at different levels have already begun within the party ahead of finalising the candidates.

IUML State general secretary K.P.A. Majeed indicated here on Saturday that the party would not have to change the incumbents in Malappuram and Ponnani.

Mr. Majeed’s statement was in the backdrop of the demands raised from some corners for a young candidate in place of IUML national president E. Ahamed.

Sources close to Mr. Ahamed told The Hindu that he was willing to contest Malappuram one more time. Mr. Majeed said there was no question of replacing Mr. Ahamed unless he did not want to step down on his own.
