The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has started preparations for the next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
“We cannot rule out the possibility of an imminent election,” IUML State leaders P.K. Kunhalikutty and K.P.A. Majeed said after a meeting of the party State leadership here on Saturday.
The party had started preparatory work well ahead of the last elections as well. Special panels of the party would survey all Lok Sabha constituencies in the State in advance. Rallies, campaigns, family meetings, and leaflet distribution would strengthen the party and take the good work of the Union and State governments to the people, they said.
All efforts would be taken to implement the green policy of the party. IUML’s subsidiary units would be asked to work on this. The party would organise a meeting at Kuttippuram on April 11 seeking steps to save the Bharatapuzha, the leaders said.
The Seeti Sahib commemoration will be held at Thalassery. Mr. Kunhalikutty said though there were issues within the United Democratic Front (UDF), the performance of the government was good enough. He said the meeting sought an immediate end to intra-front issues which were taking the sheen off the government.
Media blamed
Those returning from Saudi Arabia after losing their jobs in the wake of the new Nitaqat law should be rehabilitated. The media had blown up the issue out of proportion, Mr. Kunhalikutty said. Party State president Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal presided over the meeting.
