ITI courses with no job potential to be wound up

Courses in the Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in the State that has no job potential will be wound up, the Minister for Labour, Employment and Training, Shibu Baby John, announced in the Assembly on Thursday.

Replying to questions in the House, the Minister said the courses offered by the ITI’s have immense job potential within and outside the State. The ITI’s have placement cells and job fairs are organised for ensuring placement for those passing out.

The Labour Minister said the government will upgrade the Women ITI in Kozhikode and ITI at Chakka in Thiruvananthapuram to international level. The government is in the process of appointing a consultant for fixing the international norms for these ITI’s. If successful, it would be extended to the other ITI’s in phases, Mr. Shibu said.

The Labour Department and the SC Department will take steps to improve the 44 ITI’s functioning under the SC Department, he said in reply to another query. The government has given one more year for the upgrade of the ITI’s in the State under the dynamic funding, WB aid and PPP mode. Nine ITI’s had not even got land for setting up the campus.

Tribunal Bill

Minister for Water Resources P. J. Joseph said the government would again write to the Union Home Ministry to get the approval of the President for the Plachimda Tribunal Bill passed unanimously by the Assembly in 2011. If needed, the Union Home Minister will be approached by the State.

The government had given all clarifications sought by the Home Ministry, the Minister said in reply to queries from the treasury benches and Opposition on the delay in getting the nod.

Minister for Scheduled Caste and Backward Classes, A. P. Anil Kumar said the government would increase the financial assistance provided for the weaker sections among the Scheduled Caste. The government will take steps to renovate the pre-matric hostels.

Minister for Home and Vigilance Ramesh Chennithala informed the House that 26 incidents of indecent behaviour to tourists, including had been reported in the last three years. Cases had been taken in all the 26 incidents. The police have received 33 complaints from the tourists during the period.
