Chief Minister Oommen Chandy contradicted the stand taken by the Advocate General K. P. Dandapani that the media was creating panic about the vulnerability of Mullapeiryar dam.

Talking to the media on his return from Delhi, the Chief Minister said that the government did not have the view that a scare had been created by the media. He would examine what action need be taken regarding the submission of the Advocate General before the Kerala High Court.

Conveying a positive note about outcome of his visit to Delhi, the Chief Minister said that the government’s representation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had paved way for official level talks between the two States.

Mr. Chandy said that Kerala’s stand had received wide recognition in Delhi. The dispute was not about supply of water to Tamil Nadu as in the case of other water disputes in the country, but about safety of people.

Meanwhile, Minister for Water Resources P. J. Joseph is leaving for Delhi on Saturday for consultation with its counsel Harish Salve on approaching the Supreme Court with an interim application for reduction of water level in Mullaperiyar. He would be meeting the counsel in the evening. Officials of the Mullaperiyar Special Cell of Kerala are also accompanying him.

Various organisations staged protests before the Secretariat here on Saturday against the submission made by the Advocate General before the Court.
