Efforts are on to ensure insurance coverage for United Democratic Front (UDF) workers serving as booth agents in the district.
District Congress Committee president K. Surendran said in a press release here on Wednesday that steps were being taken to give insurance coverage for the UDF booth agents who are vulnerable to attacks on the polling day. He said that preliminary talks were held with insurance company officials in this regard.
Mr. Surendran said attacks on UDF booth agents were common in many parts of the district. There were several cases in the past of UDF booth agents who were physically incapacitated for months after they were attacked on polling days. The insurance coverage being planned now is to cushion heavy financial burden the party has to bear for the treatment of injured workers, he noted.
