Erumappetty additional sub-inspector (ASI) T.D. Jose has been placed under suspension pending inquiry for making demeaning comments to a 12-year-old rape survivor and her mother in front of a group of people.

Superintendent of Police (Thrissur rural) N. Vijyakumar suspended him on the basis of an inquiry report by Kunnamkulam Dy.SP on a complaint by the mother. Abdul Rahman of Nelluvai, arrested in connection with the sexual harassment of the minor girl, is in remand.

The girl and mother were allegedly attacked by the abuser’s relatives on Monday night. The mother said she called the police station for help. The ASI arrived an hour later and made disparaging statements against the mother and daughter, she said. She alleged that the ASI dragged the girl out of the car and asked her to describe the abuse to the crowd. He used obscene language, the mother complained. Later Kunnamkulam Circle Inspector Rajesh K. Menon who reached the scene rescued the duo.

When the issue became controversial, State Police Chief Loknath Behera sought a report from the rural SP and suspended the ASI.
