The Naval cadets of the Spring Term 2018 of the Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala here will pass out at a passing-out parade at the academy on May 26.

A press release here on Thursday said 311 Midshipmen and cadets from four courses would pass out on completion of their training. The courses are INA Course (B.Tech.), INA Course (M.Sc.), and Naval Orientation Courses (both extended and regular).

There will be 10 female cadets and four international cadets from Maldives, Myanmar, and Vietnam, the release said.

Though Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was scheduled to be the chief guest at the ceremony, the release said that Vice Admiral A.R. Karve, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, would be reviewing the parade.

The INA release gives no reason for the cancellation of the Defence Minister’s visit.

Apart from parents and guardians of the cadets, trainee recruits and staff from the Recruit Training Centre of the Central Reserve Police Force, Peringome; and cadets of the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun would witness the parade.

National Cadet Corps cadets; and students and teachers of local schools and colleges would also be present at the event, the press release said.

Protest put on hold

A local action committee of residents of Ramanthali in the locality, agitating over the issue of sewage treatment plant (STP) of the INA, has decided to put on hold its earlier decision to observe ‘black day’ on May 25 and 26.

Janakeeya Aarogya Samrakshana Samithi said the decision was taken in the wake of assurances given by the INA authorities that the STP would be completely decentralised. The Samithi’s representatives were invited for talks by INA authorities, they added.
