Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Thursday that clearance given for the Skycity Project was only preliminary. “It is only clearance in principle. The promoters will have to meet conditions and obtain several clearances (before the project could take off).”
Briefing the media after a meeting of the Cabinet, the Chief Minister said that government would take final decision on allowing the project after the promoter company (Yasoram Group) obtained the necessary clearances. As to a case before the High Court, the government would respond to it upon getting notice.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Mr. Chandy had said that he was not aware of the government having given clearance to the project. On Thursday, he said that he had obtained the details about the government decision on the project.
(The Skycity is proposed as a fly over largely above the backwaters with commercial space attached to it and providing free passage. The Skycity will extend from Kundannoor near National Highway 47 bypass in the south to Sahodaran Ayyappan Road in the north, passing above the Chilavannoor Bund Road and the backwaters in Kochi. Another stretch of the Skycity will extend from the Sahodaran Ayyappan Road to the Subhash Chandrabose Road in the city).
IPL Cricket:
The Chief Minister confirmed that the Rendezvous Sports World group had approached him seeking government’s support for IP Cricket franchise in Kochi. He had told them that he would give a response after consultations with those concerned. The representation was made against the background of auction for selection of the team scheduled for next week.
