June 21, 2014 03:06 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:00 pm IST - THRISSUR:

The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar to implement the recommendations of the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP), headed by Madhav Gadgil, without delay.

In a memorandum submitted to the Minister here on Friday, BJP State president V. Muraleedharan called for the immediate establishment of the Western Ghats Ecology Authority.

He demanded measures to check illegal mining and quarrying, and to develop a participatory model of conservation for Western Ghats.

He said that vested interests had created anxiety among sections of society over the WGEEP report.
