The immigration personnel at Cochin airport on Sunday detained a person wanted by the National Investigation Agency in a case related to the secret meeting of SIMI activists at Panayikulam, soon after his arrival here in the morning.
The accused, identified as Nissar Ibrahim (26), son on Ibrahim, Vettuvelil House, Uliyannoor in Aluva was detained following a Look out Circular issued by the NIA.
According to officials, Nissar was the 17th accused in the case who had been in Sharjah for the last two years. He was questioned at the airport for hours by a police team led by the internal security Dy.Sp Krishna Kumar and would be handed over to the NIA for a detailed interrogation, they said.
Sources said the person was an accused in the case crime no3/2010 and was nabbed at the airport based on a tip-off on his arrival here by an Air India flight from Sharjah at 5.15 a.m.
The Union Home Ministry in December 2009 had transferred the case to the NIA for investigation and a charge sheet, also listing as many as 17 accused in this regard, was filed before the CBI Special court in December 2010.
K N Rajesh, a police Sub-Inspector at Binanipuram, had received information on August 15, 2006 about a secret meeting of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India at an auditorium in Panayikulam. Seventeen were arrested and later let out on bail. Books and pamphlets which were pro-Pakistani, anti-government, seditious and provocative creating religious animosity, were seized.
According to the charge sheet, five of the accused - P A Shaduly, Abdul Rasik, Ansar, Nizamuddin and Shammi, had entered into a criminal conspiracy in Ernakulam and other places to "advocate, incite, abet unlawful activities of cession of Kashmir from India and to bring hatred and contempt towards the Government of India" and organised the meeting at Panayikulam which was attended by the remaining accused.
The five have been charged under IPC 120 B (criminal conspiracy) read with 124 A (sedition) and under provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The other accused were named as Shameer, Abdul Hakeem, Nizar, Mohayudheen Kutty, Muhammed Nissar, Ashkar, Nissar, Salih, Hashim, Riyas, Muhammed Naisam and Nissar.
About eighty nine witnesses and 69 documents were examined before preparing the charge sheet.
