Finance and Law Minister K.M. Mani said here on Monday that he did not believe in becoming the Chief Minister by devious means.

Responding to a statement of Communist Party of India (Marxist) polit bureau member S. Ramachandran Pillai, Mr. Mani said he had expressed no desire to anyone about his Chief Minister ambitions. He had so far held no discussion on the matter, he said expressing gratitude for the good words being said about him.

He made it clear that the Kerala Congress(M) was a constituent of the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF). His party has been in the front on the basis of valid programmes and clear positions.

The Kerala Congress(M) has not demanded a leadership change in the State. Such a demand is irrelevant at this point of time, he said and rejected the idea that the UDF and the government are facing a crisis.
