Mosques and dargahs here reverberated with prayers on Id-ul-Fitr day, marking the end of a month of fasting to espouse the values of sacrifice and inner purity.
Dressed up in their best, with choicest scents wafting from their new clothes, the faithful exchanged pleasantries by hugging one another in various Idgahs and mosques, where they had gathered in large numbers right from morning to perform the ‘ Subahi Niskaram ’ (morning prayers) to seek grace of the Almighty on the day.
Muslims believe that the day-long fast during the Ramzan month, which commenced from second year of the Hijra calendar, would help them experience the sufferings and hunger of the deprived sections and thereby get an opportunity to purify themselves by surrendering to the Almighty and to seek his pardon for the sinful deeds committed in the past.
The prominent mosques like Malik Dinar Juma Masjid, Mubarak Masjid, the Nellikunnu Juma Masjid, Badar Juma Masjd, Kasaragod town Idgah, Kottachery Idgah in Kanhangad and Salafi Masjid in Kanhangad witnessed large number of people attending the prayers.
Delivering his message to the faithful assembled at the Hira Masjid in Kanhangad, spiritual leader Naser Cherukara urged the community members from being misled by the forces of “darkness”.
The fast observed during the holy month of Ramzan would help the people to regain energy to identify the spirit of evil forces and lead a life of compassion and brotherhood, he said.
A Correspondent writes from Kannur: In the district, believers collectively conducted prayers at their mosques than at Idgahs, mainly owing to an unpredictable monsoon.
Mosques were overflowing with believers for the special prayer and sermon of Id-ul-Fitr, which were led by the Imams of the mosques concerned.
Believers exchanged pleasantries and paid the Fitr zakat, the charity given to the poor at the conclusion of Ramzan. Many also performed the ‘Khabar Ziyarat,’ a visit to the graveyards after the prayers.
The Kannur Jamaat Masjid, Thayetheru Salafi Da’awa Centre, Thayetheru Juma Masjid, Noor Masjid, near municipal bus stand, Muhiyudheen Juma Masjid, near camp bazaar, Kannur city Kulangara Masjid, and Chalad Salafi Masjid were a few mosques where large number of believers attended Id prayers.
