Water level in the Idukki reservoir has dipped further even though generation at the Moolamattom power house has been reduced. The production level recorded on Wednesday was 2.435 million units (mu).
An official at the Dam Research and Monitoring Cell, Cheruthoni, told The Hindu that it rained in the catchment areas of the dam two days back, with the reservoir receiving an inflow of 25 mcft (million cubic feet). The inflow was 8.85 mcft on Wednesday as there was no rain in the catchment area.
The daily power generation at the power house was being regulated to make optimum use of the storage in case of delayed monsoon.
The catchment area had not so far received steady rainfall to record an increase in the inflow, the official said.
The water level in the dam was 2,039.72 ft on Wednesday against 2,325.81 ft on the same day last year. In March, the inflow had fallen to 7.18 mcft, he said.
The official said that the storage in the dam was enough to generate 352 mu, adding that the water level raised serious concern as it was the lowest level of the season since the dam was commissioned.
