People of Thrissur have something special to celebrate in this edition of Pooram. Ragam cinema, one of the oldest cinemas in the State, is making a comeback after four years.
Mmede Ragam (Our Ragam), a short film produced by BADZ Entertainment for Paparaci Media, is a travel through nostalgia of filmgoers watching movie at Ragam.
The moviegoers of Thrissur cannot forget the name Ragam, the theatre that has been closed for four years for renovation.
Situated in the heart of the city, it is more of an emotion for Thrissur people. Once it was a celebration place for every youth here. They turn nostalgic when they think about this theatre, which had introduced modern trends in cinema like 70 mm screen and the Dolby NR system.
Directed by Sabaresh S. Nair and N.S. Hari, the film opens with a conversation between two youngsters who share the pain of the death of majestic elephant Thiruvambadi Sivasundar. Even in the sorrow, the reopening of Ragam makes them exited. Ragam was one of the earliest modern cinemas in the State. Nellu , directed by Ramu Kariat, was the first film screened at the theatre owned by George Neryamparambil in 1974, recall elders. They remember actors Prem Nazir, Jayabharathi, Adoor Bhasi, Sankaradi, and Ramu Kariat coming for the screening of the film. Nellu was screened for 50 days at Ragam.
Whenever the Malayalam film industry tried modern technology, those films were screened in Ragam. The first cinemascope film in Malayalam Thacholi Ambu, first 70 mm film Padayotta m and first 3D film My Dear Kuttichathan were screened here.
