ICMR workshop begins at Kottakkal

The three-day national workshop on ‘plant drug discovery and development’, jointly organised by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, began at Kottakkal on Thursday.

Inaugurating the workshop at the Arya Vaidya Sala’s Centre for Medicinal Plants Research (CMPR), E.T. Mohammed Basheer MP described the collaboration with ICMR as a feather in the cap of Arya Vaidya Sala. P.M. Varier, chief superintendent and additional chief physician of Arya Vaidya Sala, presided over the function.

K.S. Money, Arya Vaidya Sala general manager, welcomed the gathering. Soumya Swaminathan, ICMR Director General and Health Research Department Secretary, addressed the workshop. Neeraj Tandon, ICMR medicinal plants division head, introduced the topic.

S.S. Handa, Chairman of the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicines, and P.K. Warrier, managing trustee of Arya Vaidya Sala, released two books on the occasion. Indira Balachandran, CMPR Project Director, and A.B. Rema Shree, CMPR Deputy Project Director, spoke.
