IAS officer reinstated

September 06, 2009 03:49 pm | Updated 08:17 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The government has issued orders reinstating IAS officer K. Suresh Kumar, who initially headed the Munnar eviction drive.

Mr. Suresh Kumar, who was earlier the Additional Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office, had been suspended for criticising the Political Secretary K.N. Balagopal and Private Secretary S. Rajendran of the Chief Minister.

However, Chief Secretary Neela Gangadharan had recommended his reinstatement after looking into the charges against him. Though the Chief Minister had issued orders for his reinstatement, action was delayed on apparent opposition from some sections within the CPI(M).

Mr. Suresh Kumar was one of the three officers deputed to lead the eviction of encroachers and demolition of unauthorised constructions in and around Munnar in Kerala.

However, the drive was practically abandoned following political opposition.

Mr. Achuthanandan was forced to call back Mr. Suresh Kumar and post him as the Managing Director of the State Cooperative Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.
