Devotees from different parts of the State thronged the temple on Thursday to witness the ritualistic ceremony which, they believe, would bring them good fortunes and prosperity in the years ahead.
The Arat idols of the presiding deities, Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathi, were taken out in a ceremonial procession to the Arat kadavu (Mithrappuzha kadavu) in river Pampa in the morning.
The rituals in connection with the holy dip (Arat) was led by temple Tantri at the Arat kadavu.
A ceremonial procession with the accompaniments of traditional temple orchestra, panchavadyam and caparisoned elephants was held, escorting the deities back to the temple precincts, later. Hundreds of women devotees offered traditional `Thalappoli’ lamps, escorting the procession and many others offered Nirapara to the deities when the procession reached the temple precincts, later, in the afternoon.
