The Assembly on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the death threat issued by an Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader from Madhya Pradesh against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Moving the resolution after zero hour, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs A.K. Balan called upon the Government of Madhya Pradesh to file a case against the RSS leader who had announced a bounty of ₹1 crore on Mr.Vijayan’s head.

Terming the threat as inhuman, the resolution said the House shared the anxiety and concern of the people of Kerala over the threat to Mr. Vijayan, who has been a public figure in the State for over 50 years as political leader, legislator and Minister.

Denouncing the use of violence to counter ideological arguments, the House called for a concerted effort to resist and overcome the threat to democracy, peace and communal harmony.

BJP support

The resolution was adopted unanimously.

Mr. Balan informed the House that Bharatiya Janata Party MLA O.Rajagopal who had left before the motion was taken up for discussion had declared his support.

Earlier this month, RSS leader from Ujjain Kundan Chandrawat had drawn criticism and public outrage for announcing a reward of ₹1 crore for anyone beheading the Kerala Chief Minister, in retaliation for the attack on RSS workers in the State.

The Kerala BJP leadership had distanced itself from the announcement, saying that such threats were not the style of the party, which believed in democratic traditions.
