District Collector Pranab Jyotinath has declared a regional holiday for all educational institutions and government offices in the district on September 20 in view of the annual snake-boat regatta, Uthrittathi Vallamkali, to be held in the Pampa at Aranmula.

In another order issued on Thursday, the Collector, who is also the District Magistrate, has ordered prohibition in and around Aranmula on September 20.

The prohibition order will be applicable to toddy and liquor shops and bars in Aranmula, Thottappuzhasserry, and Kozhencherry, and the retail outlets of the Beverages Corporation in Kozhencherry and Kidangannur. The order has also prohibited stocking of liquor by individuals.

Ban on processions

The Collector has banned processions within 2-km radius of Sree Parthasarathy Temple on September 19 and 20 to facilitate smooth and peaceful conduct of the annual snake-boat regatta.

The District Magistrate’s order has also banned use of loudspeakers in the area by people other than the organisers of the regatta on these two days as per the Police Act. Conducting entertainment programmes other than the Vallamkali in the area too has been banned on these two days under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
