Spreading the eternal light of spirituality for the benefit of the entire universe and humanity as a whole is the ultimate message and aim of Hindu dharma, said Swami Sivaratridesikendra, spiritual head of Veerasimhasana Madhom at Suthur in Mysore.

The spiritual leader was inaugurating the 98th annual Hindu religious meet, organised by the Ayroor-Cherukolpuzha Hindumatha Maha Mandalam (HMM), on the banks of river Pampa at Cherukolpuzha near

Kozhencherry on Sunday afternoon.

He said Vidyadhiraja Chattampi Swami and Sri Narayana Guru were two great spiritual leaders who successfully fought against the social evils that prevailed in the Hindu society in the past.

Swami Sivaratridesikendra said the power behind the number of deities in the Hindu religious faith was one and the same, though people worship different forms of the omnipresent God.

“The Hindu faith is like an ocean of Truth and philosophy. It is all-inclusive and it holds in its fold remedy for all problems facing the world and humanity,’’ said Swami Sivaratridesikendra.

Nowhere in the world one could see such a sublime tradition that worship even the nature as God Almighty, he said.

The Swami was accorded a rousing reception with a traditional Poornakumbh on his arrival at the meeting venue, earlier.

Mr O.Rajagopal, former Union Minister, presided the inaugural function.

Addressing the meet, Mr Rajagopal strongly criticised the report of Rangnath Mishra Commission that proposed Scheduled Caste status for those who had converted to Islam and Christianity.

Reservation was introduced for the uplift of communities that faced caste discrimination. The proposal of the commission to give Scheduled Caste status to those who had converted was against Constitutional provisions, he alleged.

According to him, caste system is the feature of Hindu society and reservation should be restricted to Hindus alone.

Prof Ramavarma of Alappuzha SD College delivered the keynote address. Mr K. Sivadasan Nair, Mr K.C. Rajagopalan, MLAs, T.N. Upendranatha Kurup, HMM president and former president of Travancore Devaswom Board and A.G. Hariharan Nair, publicity convener, also spoke.

L.Gireesh Kumar, head of Sripuram Tantric Research Centre, Irinjalakkuda, delivered a religious discourse..

District Superintendent of Police, K.Sanjaykumar, inaugurated the Annadanam at the meeting venue, earlier, at 1 pm.

The week-long religious convention will come to a close on February 14.
