High Court to hear Vilappilsala issue

June 01, 2012 02:10 am | Updated July 11, 2016 10:39 pm IST - Kochi:

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Thursday said it would go ahead with the hearing of the contempt of court petition filed by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation against the Vilappil grama panchayat and the Janakeeya Samithi office-bearers for violating its directives on the solid waste treatment plant.

The Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice A.M. Saffique asked the panchayat to file objection, if any, to the contempt petition.

The court, adjourning the hearing on the petition to June 4, said sufficient time had been given to the panchayat to resolve the issue.

The Kerala Mediation and Conciliation Centre's effort to settle the issue had not been successful.

The issue was referred to the Conciliation Centre by the Bench.

When the petition was taken up for hearing, the corporation counsel pleaded for initiating contempt of court proceedings against the panchayat president and others.
