The helpline set up by the Kerala Police for assisting women has won an award from the International Association of Women Police. Inspector General of Police B. Sandhya received the award for Kerala Police at a function held in Minneapolis in the United States early this week, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said here on Wednesday.
The Kerala Police was chosen for the award considering its efforts in maintenance of law and order and protection of women using modern technology. The use of mobile phones, free SMS, toll free telephone, the Janamaitri Scheme and people’s vigilance committees for ensuring the security of women was taken note of in that respect. Besides, Ms. Sandhya received the scholarship of the Association for 2010 in recognition of her work in connection with Janamailtri scheme, Mr. Balakrishnan said.
