Held on charge of peddling ganja

T: The City police on Tuesday arrested one person on the charge of allegedly possessing 1.5 kg of cannabis.

According to Assistant Commissioner (Control Room) A. Pramod Kumar, the accused has been identified as Mahesh alias Kochumon Mahesh, who hails from Goods Yard colony in Kochuveli.

He was apprehended by a Shadow Police team.

The accused, who was earlier booked in several cases of chain-snatching that were reported in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and various parts of Tamil Nadu, was undergoing a jail term until recently.

After completing his sentence, Mahesh allegedly entered the illegal contraband business by sourcing the product from places such as Cumbum, Theni and Madurai.

Mr. Kumar said the accused has been selling cannabis in small packets to school and college students. Students who were unable to pay for their purchase were encouraged to engage in anti-social activities such as motorcycle theft and chain-snatching. The accused was produced before court and remanded.
