No casualties or damage to property

April 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - KOLLAM:

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lighting hit Kollam city and most parts of the district in the evening on Tuesday.

The downpour which lasted for more than four hours caught many unawares.

Many pockets of the city got flooded.

No casualties or damage to property were reported till 7 p.m.

The rain played spoilsport at temples where the annual festival programmes were in progress.

Many devotees who had gathered at the temples holding the traditional patham udayam festival could not participate in the rituals.

Fishermen out at sea were also caught unawares.

Fishermen

Traditional fishermen were the worst-hit with many returning without engaging in fishing as the thundershowers gained momentum.

The shower, however, brought welcome relief to the sweltering summer heat in many parts of the district.
