Health Minister K.K. Shylaja has said that a comprehensive health-care scheme will be launched in the State in association with the local bodies.

Inaugurating the new building of the Government Nursing School at Pallikkunnu here on Saturday, the Minister said the government’s plan was to bring a total change in the health and family welfare sector and to strengthen public sector health care facilities.

She said a health card scheme covering all people and a family doctor scheme were in the pipeline. These measures could bring about major changes in the health care sector. She said that 700 vacancies had been reported in the Health Department. Of these, 110 posts had been filled. Plans were also afoot to elevate primary health centres to community health centres (CHC) and CHCs to taluk hospitals in phases.
