The Kerala High Court has granted permission to Muslim female candidates to wear hijab (head scarf) while appearing for the medical entrance examination conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) scheduled for May 28, subject to the condition that they should be present at the examination venue one hour before the scheduled time for frisking.
The order was passed on a petition filed by Mishad Kezhariyoor, president, Muslim Students Federation, and two Muslim female candidates seeking a directive to allow the candidates to enter the examination hall and write the examination wearing dresses according to their religious custom.
In its advisory also, the AIIMS has asked the students to reach the exam centre early to allow adequate time for frisking, if religion/ custom requires them to wear any particular headgear.
