Hartal to hit normal life

September 19, 2011 01:23 pm | Updated 01:23 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), coupled with a State-wide vehicle strike called by pro-Left organisations in the transport sector, is set to disrupt normal life in the State.

While the hartal would affect the functioning of educational institutions, banks, shops, and offices, the transport strike would render vehicular traffic next to impossible. All the examinations scheduled for Monday have been postponed by the Kerala Public Service Commission, universities, and other institutions.

Neither the LDF nor the BJP has exempted Thiruvananthapuram, where a hartal was observed by the LDF on Saturday, from Monday's hartal.
