January 03, 2013 02:25 am | Updated 02:25 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (I) here on Wednesday issued orders directing the prosecution to provide copies of the documents and statements of witnesses in the Kozhikode ice-cream parlour sex-scandal case to Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan by January 17.

Magistrate P.T. Prakashan was acting on a petition moved by Mr. Achuthanandan earlier requesting for copies of the statements of witnesses submitted by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP), Thamarassery, Jaison K. Abraham, who had investigated the allegations by K.A. Rauf, a businessman, with regard to the case.

Mr. Achuthanandan had been requesting for the copies after submitting at least three petitions. The Magistrate also ruled that a petition submitted by Mr. Achuthanandan that his views should be heard on the report submitted by the Dy.SP would be finally decided on January 17.
