‘Gurukula system still relevant’

May 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - KASARAGOD:

The ancient gurukula system of education holds relevance for the contemporary society as the method provides a platform for a teacher to play a crucial role in moulding and nurturing the character of the students, Central University of Kerala Vice Chancellor G. Gopakumar has said.

Teaching and mentoring assumed equal importance. The role of the teacher should not be confined to the classroom as the future of the student was shaped by the guidance given by the teacher, said Dr. Gopakumar at the Chinmaya education conclave held here recently.

Dr. Gopakumar lauded the contributions of Pakistani Nobel Peace prize winning human rights activist Malala Yousafzai who championed the cause of female education in her country.
