Gross neglect: Left, Congress

The Congress and the Left parties have come down heavily on the Railway budget, terming it a serious blow to the State’s railway development dreams.

In separate statements here on Tuesday, leaders of the parties belonging to the Left front and the Congress regretted what they termed gross neglect of the State’s interests.

While Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan said the budget appeared to have been prepared as if Kerala did not exist, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president V. M. Sudheeran felt that budget appeared to reflect a ‘kind of vendetta’ against the State.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the State had not been given any new railway line, major train service or project in the budget.

Mr. Sudheeran said the budget reflected ‘cruel negligence and gross injustice’ towards the State called upon the entire population of to come together to register the State’s protest against the budget.

In a separate statement, CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said what the budget reflected was ‘political discrimination’ against Kerala.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that the budget aimed at the country’s comprehensive development was meaningless given the gross neglect shown towards Kerala.
