Around 6,000 children from seven educational sub-districts will take part in nearly 260 events at the five-day Revenue district Kalotsavam that gets under way at the Chemnad Jama-at Higher Secondary School near here from Saturday.

Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan will formally inaugurate the event on Monday in the presence of local MLAs M. Rajagopalan, P.B. Abdul Razak, K. Kunhiraman and district panchayat president A.G.C. Basheer along with Collector K. Jeevanbabu.

Eleven venues

The events will be staged in 11 venues, Deputy Director of Education Girish Cholayil told a press meet also addressed by school Principal Salimma Joseph here on Thursday.

It has been decided to stick to green protocol at the venue.

Food will be served only in eco-friendly materials, Ms. Joseph said. Even the bags used to collect garbage would be eco-friendly. A group of students were found busy weaving such bags using coconut leaves.

No to plastic

The organising committee, chaired by Uduma MLA K. Kunhiraman, has decided to serve food wrapped in plantain leaves to students waiting for their turn behind the stage. Plastic materials, even plastic-coated paper cups, will be avoided.

The valedictory session will be chaired by N.A. Nellikkunnu, MLA, at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
