The government has made the Sampoorna online school management software mandatory for capturing details of all students from classes 1 to 12.
Sampoorna, developed by IT@School on a free and open-source software (FOSS) platform, is a one-stop source for all details of students such as transfer certificate, reports, and entry forms.
All schools in the State, including government, aided, CBSE, ICSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya institutions, and recognised unaided schools, will now have to record details of their students through Sampoorna. It is expected to cover 50 lakh students in 15,000 schools.
At present, the Education Department and various agencies under other departments collect the same data from schools repeatedly either online or offline. Through Sampoorna, data collection will be streamlined. It will also pave the way for a completely digital mechanism, aiding in the creation of a paper-less environment.

Sampoorna can also include details required by agencies such as Pareeksha Bhavan, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyam, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, and the Statistics wing.
The Educational Directorate should issue periodic instructions to ensure the authenticity of data captured on Sampoorna, a government order says.
Sampoorna can provide a wide range of student details such as admission register, transfer certificate, different reports, including progress reports, list generation for various scholarships, promotion list preparation and that of A-list for SSLC examination, entry forms for sports, games, and arts festivals, and issue of identity cards.
It will be possible to assess the learning progress of a student right from the time of admission in class 1 and even to discover their talent, IT@School Project Executive Director K. Anvar Sadath said. Sampoorna will also capture the details of teachers and non-teaching staff of every school, making it a comprehensive software. Detailed information on school facilities such as infrastructure, equipment, furniture, sanitation facilities and so on will also be incorporated this year.
The software was launched by IT@School in 2010 as part its e-governance initiatives. In 2012, for the first time, headmasters of schools were given authority to update students’ details such as name, religion, and date of birth, which till then could be done only by District Educational Officers or Assistant Educational Officers.
