Govt. jobs for National Games gold medallists

Recognition for role of sportspersons: Minister

Gold medal winners at the 35th National Games will be provided with government jobs, Minister for Sports Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said.

He was speaking on the occasion of arrival of the torch relay being undertaken in the run-up to the sports extravaganza here. Mr. Radhakrishnan said a decision on the government jobs had been taken by the Cabinet.

“We have decided to take such a step as part of recognition of the role played by sports stars in enhancing the self-respect of the people of the State,” he said.

Municipal chairman K.R.G. Warrier and Kottayam District Urban Bank president K. Anil Kumar spoke.

The torch relay, which began at Kasaragod, had entered the district at Vaikom. The torch relay was accorded receptions at Ettumanur, Kuruppanthara, Thalayolaparambu, Chingavanom, and Changanassery.

The relay was led by P.C. Vishnunath, MLA, and S. Nizamuddin, Additional Director, Department of Sports. It was received in Kottayam by District Sports Council president Aymanam Babu.
