The LDF government, which has lost collective responsibility, should be dissolved, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has said.

Addressing a public meeting held here on Wednesday as part of Padayorukkam, a State-wide march led by him, Mr. Chennithala said the Pinarayi Vijayan government had lost the moral right to continue.

“Three of the LDF ministers had to quit within one-and-half years of its rule. The State witnessed a strange situation on Wednesday when the CPI, one of the main allies of the LDF, kept out of the Cabinet meeting. It shows the total failure of the government,” he said.

Chandy had no choice

He said Transport Minister Thomas Chandy resigned from the Cabinet when he had no other choice.

The Chief Minister had to ask for his resignation as the entire public went against him, Mr. Chennithala said.

“The Chief Minister should make it clear whether Mr. Chandy’s resignation is conditional or not. We can’t accept a temporary resignation. The Chief Minister should be ready to answer people’s questions whether Mr. Chandy will come back again,” he said.

The government is opening beverages stores instead of consumer stores. This government would be the last communist government in the country, said Mr. Chennithala.

He alleged that the State was witnessing stagnation in all fields. No development works had been implemented. The increasing prices of essential goods were making the lives of common man difficult. Violence and murders had become common. The government was only interested in political vengeance, he said.

He alleged that by opposing the Congress, the LDF was strengthening the BJP/RSS in the State.

Lashing out at the BJP government at the Centre, Mr. Chennithala said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was acting like an autocrat.

He asked the people to rally behind Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the fight to regain the secular values of the country. “Padayorukkam is the preparation for the 2019 election to oust the BJP government,’’ he said.
