Minister for Rural Development K.C. Joseph has said that the State government is committed to ensuring fruits of science and technology for the people of the State.
Inaugurating the 10th anniversary of the Science Park and the new library set up at the park here on Saturday, the Minister said that when the development of science and technology in the country reached a level where it could face any challenge, the State could not afford to be lagging. The country's scientific and technological progress had led to the growth of a science culture that equipped the country to compete with any other country on the science and technology front. He also said that the scientific progress of the State would also be accelerated as the new generation was well-versed in science and technology subjects.
Observing that the society had witnessed rapid changes over the decades as a result of leaps in science and technology, Mr. Joseph said that the country's communication technology had seen revolutionary changes thanks to the services of technologists such as Sam Pitroda. The services of Mr. Pitroda were now available for the State, he noted. The proposed high-speed rail corridor from Mangalore to Thiruvananthapuram would be a major scientific achievement of the State, he added.
The Minister said that the State could not afford to remain stagnant when the entire world was developing at a fast rate. The Chief Minister Ommen Chandy's motto 'Move fast and get far' reflected the State's aspirations to make use of science and technology for the State's progress, he added.
District panchayat president K.A. Sarala presided over the function.
Municipal chairperson M.C. Sreeja, Information and Public Relations Department Officer E.V. Sugathan and Science Park Director Palliyara Sreedharan were among those present at the function.
