Governor P. Sathasivam has stressed the importance of restructuring educational system by incorporating online medium. He said that every innovation had to be interdisciplinary in content and universal in application in the globalised atmosphere.
Inaugurating the valedictory of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the St. Joseph’s College for Women here on Saturday, Mr. Sathasivam underscored the contributions of Christian missionaries in promoting education in the State.
“If Kerala enjoys a prominent place in literacy, higher education and human development, we owe it to the missionaries who started centres of learning across the land. But for their pioneering efforts, and those of other private managements, we would not have been able to attain the present-day progress in high potential areas,” he said. He said education must involve development of intellectual power and should not be restricted to learning. “It should help youngsters imbibe the best in human thought and behaviour,” he said.
The Governor added that many States had implemented welfare measures for women and children. The Supreme Court had also upheld special provisions made for women in criminal and procedural laws.
Mother Provincial Gertrude Michael of Province of Mary Immaculate, South India, delivered the keynote address. K.C. Venugopal, MP, Alleppey Diocese Vicar General Pius Arattukulam, and College Principal Janat Augustine and manager Philomena Puthenpura spoke.
