Accusing the United Democratic Front (UDF) government of making moves to divest public property, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the recent Cabinet decision to this effect has exposed the government’s resolve to illegally transfer vast stretches of revenue land to influential private parties.

Addressing a function to inaugurate the Azhikodan Raghavan memorial building and valedictory function of the 40th anniversary of Azhikodan Memorial Arts and Sports Club at Vellikoth here on Tuesday, he said the government’s hasty decision to transfer over 100 acres of revenue land (in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts) to a private business group was obviously taken circumventing to pecuniary consideration.

The voters should be prepared to “oust” the UDF government in the upcoming elections for its inefficient administration and corrupt practices, Mr. Vijayan said virtually kicking off the LDF election campaign in the district. Arguing that the BJP was perpetuating communal forces to have a political space in the State after the polls, he alleged that Mr. Chandy had developed an “unholy nexus” with the RSS to help the saffron party emerge more influential in the State.

Painting a grim picture on the employment front, the CPI(M) leader said the UDF government had virtually frozen the recruitment process initiated by the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) forcing the rank holders to form associations to mount pressure on the authorities, he said.
