gold smuggling: George demands NIA probe

Government Chief Whip and Kerala Congress(M) vice president P.C. George has urged Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to hand over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) all cases related to gold smuggling and hawala rackets allegedly carried out through the Cochin international airport.

In a letter to Mr. Chandy, with copies marked to Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, Finance and Law Minister K.M. Mani, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala, and United Democratic Front (UDF) convener P.P. Thankachan, Mr. George said that three accused in the case, including Fayas, were suspected to be conduits of hawala money to terror links and the cinema industry.
