KOLLAM RAILWAY POLICE MOONNU KILO SWARNABHARANAVUMAI ARREST CHEYTHA JOSHI

The Railway Police seized 3 kg. of gold ornaments from a passenger at the Kollam railway station on Saturday morning. The ornaments were being brought from Thrissur and were meant to be distributed to jewellery shops in Kollam district.

The police said Joshy, 39, of Thrissur was arrested from the Thiruvananthapuram-bound Maveli Express. The Railway Police detected the consignment while carrying out a post-Onam combing operation at the Kollam railway station.

The police said the ornaments comprised bangles, chains, bracelets, rings and earrings. Joshi did not produce any documents to prove that he was authorised to carry the ornaments. He was produced before a Railway court here and remanded to the district jail. The police said while the arrested man’s version was that the ornaments were meant for distribution to jewelleries, the police investigations would look into whether it was stolen property.
