Gold ornaments worth Rs. 22 lakh were found missing from the locker of a bank in the border town of Uppala on Tuesday.

A team of Cooperation Department officials found that gold ornaments kept in eight packets in the locker of the Communist Party of India-controlled Majbayal Service Cooperative Bank’s Bhagavathi Temple branch were missing, sources here pointed out.

The department is conducting an inspection in cooperative banks in the district in the wake of recent findings that loans were disbursed on the pledging of fake gold ornaments.

The officials are now planning to broaden their inspection to other branches and the main branch of the bank. — Staff Reporter
