A final-year student of the TKM College of Engineering, Kollam, had a miraculous escape when she survived a fall into the lake from a train on Wednesday without any grievous injuries.
Keerthana M.J., a resident of Pappanamcode in the city, who fell from the train into the Paravur lake was rescued by fishermen.
The student, a hosteller, was returning home on the Punalur-Kanyakumari passenger train as she was not well.
As she could not find any seat, she was leaning to one side of the door. When the train was crossing the Mamoottil bridge at Paravur, there was a sudden jerking. It was windy too, and Keerthana suddenly found herself falling into the water below.
After someone below raised an alarm, fishermen in two boats rushed to her help. By then, she had swallowed a lot of water.
It was then she saw a hand extended down for help, and made a grab for it. Since the fisherman was unable to pull her on board, Keerthana held on to the side of the boat, and with the support of the fishermen reached shore.
