Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his Cabinet colleagues will be away on a ‘sabbatical’ at the Indian Institute of Management in Kozhikode on Thursday to learn management skills for better administration.
It will be a day off for the Chief Minister and Ministers from their daily routines as they attend an exclusive workshop being organised for the first time for the Ministers.
Titled ‘Governance Insight for Transformation (GIFT-Unopened)’, the workshop will cover areas such as agriculture, environment, investment, health, education and development of basic infrastructure.
There will be discussions on leadership qualities and culture, and strategies needed for outstanding performance.
The workshop will be led by Director of the Institute Debashis Chatterjee and teachers of the Institute including Saji Gopinath (Quantitative Methods and Operations Management), K. Unnikrishnan Nair (Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources), Sthanu R. Nair (Economics), Abhilash S. Nair (Finance, Accounting and Control), Kulbhushan Balooni (Economics), Joffi Thomas (Marketing Management) and Debabrata Chatterjee (Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources).
Experts in management and other fields including Cardiologist Dr. Deviprasad Shetty (Narayana Hridayalaya), Director General of Confederation of Indian Industry (Investment) Chandrajith Banerjee and former Director of Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) T.T. Thomas will attend.
The workshop will begin with an interaction between the students of the Institute and the Chief Minister at 8 a.m.. The formal inauguration will be at 9.15 a.m.. The programmes and discussions will continue till 5.30 p.m..
Though training sessions have been organised by the Kerala Legislature Secretariat for members of the Assembly in the past, it is the first time that Ministers are taking part in a management workshop.
