Fire force personnel spray water to prevent any outbreak of fire from the overturned LPG tanker at Mailaty in Kasargod.

A major tragedy was averted when an LPG tanker overturned at Mailaty near Poinachi on the National Highway, 12 km from here, on Thursday leading to leakage of gas.

Authorities swung into action by evacuating the people residing nearby. The accident occurred around 6.30 a.m. when the LPG tanker of Hindustan Petroleum coming from Mangalore collided with another tanker at Battathur and overturned, the police said.

The police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel drawn from various fire stations rushed to the spot and sprayed water to prevent fire from the gas tanker. The authorities rushed to houses nearby and evacuated residents to safer places.

Officials of the oil company who arrived from Mangalore were engaged in shifting the gas from the tanker.
