Amid complaints of lapses and corruption in the conduct of the 35th National Games currently held in Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday said Local Audit Fund Department have been asked to carry out audit of the games account within 45 days.

Necessary instructions in this regard have been given to the concerned authorities, Mr. Chandy said after a Cabinet meeting here.

“Priority of the government was to have the accounts of the games audited at the earliest and a decision on ordering a probe on the complaints can wait till the games were over,” Mr. Chandy said.

Virtually rubbishing criticism on “lavish spending” on the opening ceremony of the Games on January 31, Mr. Chandy said expenses for the closing event would not be cut.

“The budget was made in 2011 and objective was to keep the expenses within that,” Mr. Chandy said.

Government has also taken necessary decision on the upkeep of the stadia constructed as part of the Games in different parts of the state, Mr. Chandy said.

“There is no confusion on that. Details would be announced on the closing day of the ceremony on February 14” Mr. Chandy said.
