Funeral of Suffragan Metropolitan today

Service will be held at SCS School grounds at Thiruvalla in the forenoon

The funeral service of Geevarghese Mar Athanaseus Suffragan Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, who passed away in Kochi on Wednesday, will be held at the SCS School grounds at Thiruvalla on Friday forenoon.

In a statement here on Thursday, Church secretary Fr. K.G. Joseph said Church head Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan would lead the funeral service to be held at a specially prepared madbeha on the school grounds. Geevarghese Mar Theodoseus would deliver the funeral message.

The ‘Nagari-kaanickal’ procession to be held from St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church on the SCS compound to the madbeha would begin at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Second phase of service

The second phase of the service was held at St Thomas Church on Thursday. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan and the bishops Geevarghese Mar Theodoseus, Yuyakim Mar Coorilos, Joseph Mar Barnabas, Thomas Mar Themotheus, Issac Mar Philexinos, Abraham Mar Paulose, Mathews Mar Makarios, Gregorios Mar Stephanos, and Thomas Mar Theethos led the services.

A large number of people, those from socio-political circles, and Church leaders paid homage to the bishop when his body was kept at the church headquarters at Thiruvalla on Thursday.

Cardinal Mar Baselius Cleemis Catholicos, Archbishop Thomas Mar Koorilos, Bishop Thomas Tharayil, Joshua Mar Ignatheos, Thomas Mar Themotheus, Joshua Mar Nicodimos, Kuriakose Mar Gregorios, Kuriakose Mar Ivanios, Youhanon Mar Theodoseus, Zacharias Mar Aprem, Bishop Thomas Abraham, P.C.Thomas, former minister, and K.Sivadasan Nair, MLA, were among those who paid homage to the bishop on Thursday.
